Please read the description of each scholarship below for more information and instructions on how to apply.

John Robbins Memorial Spirit of Volunteering  Scholarship

John Robbins was the first President of the Fredericksburg Area Running Club (FARC) and a driving force behind the Coldwell Banker Grand Prix Race Series. He was also one of the first people in the world to receive a liver transplant and was the first donor recipient to run a marathon.
A history professor, Buddhist Monk, author, and community activist, John was devoted to volunteer work. This scholarship is awarded in his memory and spirit.

Eligibility Requirements
1. Must be a FARC member
2. Must be a graduating high school senior or currently enrolled as a college undergraduate in good academic standing
3. Must attend college in the fall of 2023
4. Must be an active volunteer in school, college, and/or the community (all volunteer activities considered)

Guidelines
This $750 scholarship will be awarded based on the applicant’s volunteer work and essay on volunteerism. The essay, not to exceed two pages, should describe how volunteering has changed their view of themselves and the world around them. Although volunteer work for FARC will be considered, the scholarship is for all volunteer activities. Applicants do not necessarily need to be a member of a high school or college cross country or track team. Only information provided on this application will be used in the judges’ decision. All judges’ decisions are final and may not be appealed.

In addition to the essay, please submit a single page list of volunteer activities in chronological order, beginning with the most recent and working back. The list should include a brief description of each activity, a contact person/reference for the activity, and their email or phone number for confirmation purposes.

*Submit the entire application form (link below) to JohnRobbins.Scholarship@runfarc.com. You must use the Microsoft Word template provided. Please do not convert the document to another format.

Completed application packages are due by 11:59pm on April 09, 2023.
